The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1986. AICTE New Delhi has given a first approval in 1994 Reference FP-B/IIRC/92/22234 dt. 31/03/1994 Current approval from AICTE is F. No. 740-89-263(E)RC/94 dt. 19/07/2007, F. No. 740-89-263(E)RC/94 dt. 27/06/2007. The sanctioned intake of the department is 60. Department offers full time 4 yrs Graduate Course in Mechanical Engineering. The department has qualified and experienced faculty and technically competent supporting staff on its rolls.

The environment and culture of the institution is assumed to play a significant role in determining its effectiveness. The environment consists of the physical environment as well as the psychological, social and spiritual processes in operation in the institution. The physical dimensions include the place of location of the institution, its building, ambience, design and architecture, infrastructure facilities, etc. These are all important constituents of the learning environment. The softer dimensions include the curricula, teachers, teaching-learning processes, vision, leadership, etc. The psychological and social processes include the way the vision is articulated and shared, the way leadership is exercised, the empowerment process, evaluation and development process, faculty-student interaction, etc. Considering all these aspects of quality education department has all the necessary infrastructure and resources for academic and over all development of Undergraduate Mechanical engineering students. Department is provided with all teaching and learning resources contributing for continual improvement in education and to achieve the organizational goals / objectives.

Infrastructure

The department facilities are spread over approximate 2000 Sq. meters. The department houses four classrooms, Six engineering labs (Thermal Engineering Lab, Material Science Lab, Metrology and Quality Control Lab, CAD/CAM Lab, Heat Transfer Lab and Theory of Machines), One Seminar Hall with a facility of LCD Projector, OHP, Engineering Drawing and Design Lab.

As one of the core branch of engineering organization has set a full-fledged workshop facility that includes different mechanical machines like Shaper, Lathe, Milling Machines, Portable and Radial Drilling, CNC Machines, different welding machines etc. This facility and the other labs are very much useful for final year engineering students for development of their projects within the college premises.

Department also provides the broadband internet connection with 30 computers lab as a central facility for SE, TE and BE students.

Besides all of these department provides the necessary associated utilities that includes central office, HOD office, Rooms for staff, Meeting Room, Departmental Library, Intercom facility for effective communication, etc.

Academic Strength

The department has 13 qualified and experienced faculty members, out of which 70% are having more than 10 Yrs of experience. 70% faculty members are having postgraduate degree in various fields of mechanical engineering. Staff is engaged with academic project development and also one / two staff members have patented their projects. Faculty members are continuously engaged in research activities and have published National and International papers. HOD of mechanical engineering has about 6 publications to his credit. Staff of the department continually attends different seminars, conferences, workshop etc. to understand the modern trends and their applicability in different areas of the mechanical engineering. Faculty members are also the members of various professional bodies and update them self in different fields through the various publications.

Departmental Activities

Mechanical Engineering Students Association (MESA) has been active for several years. The students conduct various technical and social activities every year. Students are also encouraged to know-how the latest technology and to participate national level technical events.

The faculty members provide consultancy services in the fields of Energy Auditing, Solar Instruments, Non Conventional Energy, Refrigeration, Process Equipments, Heat Exchangers and different standards like API 5CT, Technical Specifications, QMS etc

Department also organizes different lectures of the personalities from other institutes, organizations, industries to develop students / department interaction with all those

Our HOD who is a life member of ISTE also organizes various programs under the facilities of ISTE and encourage the students to be a member of such professional bodies

Department also performs the various academic activities like Planning of Academics, Execution of Teaching Learning Process, Monitoring and Measurement of Process results through different class test, identifying the nonconformances and initiating the appropriate corrective and preventive actions, arranging the different industrial visits and ensuring students and industrial interaction, Ensuring the availability of resources through various processes of maintenance of infrastructure, Monitoring the progress of students and students various academic record, reporting the performances of student to the parents and Principal of the institute, Ensuring feedback from the students about faculty and initiating the necessary actions to improve teaching learning process results.

Departmental staff is also involved with various assignments of the university and comply all the requirements of university and other statutory and regulatory bodies.

Employment Potential

Mechanical Engineering curriculum focuses on developing the Engineering Graduates at par with the technology growth. This course develops the knowledge and skills in the area of CAD / CAM, Production Technology, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, etc. This branch of engineering produces engineers who can serve in the industries like software development, Automobile Industries, Electrical Companies, Pharmaceutical Companies and Research / Teaching. TATA Jonsons, TATA Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, L&T, Whirlpool, HAL, IRD, Trygen Technologies, Infosys, TCS, etc. are the few companies have recruited Mechanical Engineering students.
