Department Labs

The department houses 9 laboratories to conduct practical work prescribed in the syllabus. They also serve as testing centers to test various engineering materials used by the construction industry. This facility is extended to outside agencies for revenue generation. Details of various labs in department are given below.

1.      Structural lab : This Houses 40 T capacity Universal Testing machine of Heico make. It Contains number of structural models for demonstration to students. A 50 T capacity loading frame is being set up indigenously. Prof. S.K.Dubey is incharge of the lab.

2.      Geotechnical lab: It has equipments required for testing of soil; major ones are triaxial test, direct shear test etc. Prof. S.V.Desale is incharge of lab.

3.      Applied Mechanics lab: This is used for conducting experiments in the field of Engineering Mechanics by all students of the institute in their first year as part of syllabus. Prof. S.B.Sharma is lab incharge.

4.      Highway Material Testing lab: In this lab various materials like cement, sand, timber, bitumen etc required in construction of roads & buildings can be tested, using machines like Abrasion testing, impact testing, tile testing, bitumen testing machines. It also has concrete cube testing machine. Prof. S.S.Bachhav looks after the lab as incharge.

5.      Fluid Mechanics lab: This lab is spread over an extensive area of 300 sqm and has test rigs of turbines, pumps, open & closed conduits. A state of art open circuit wind tunnel can test models for aerodynamic effect on various structures. Prof. D.Y.Kshirsagar is incharge of the lab.

6.      Survey Lab:- This lab has various surveying instruments like dumpy & automatic levels, 20” & 1” accuracy theodolite etc. required in land survey. It is used by all students in first year & civil engineering students in second & third year for practical & project work. Prof. P.N. Patil is incharge of lab.

7.      Environmental lab:- This lab has facility to test water & waste water for physical, chemical & biological characteristic. It is equipped with all necessary instruments for this purpose. This lab is helpful in many consultancy projects under taken by department in the field of drinking water supply schemes. Prof. A.K. Dwivedi is incharge of the lab.

8.      Geology Lab:- Geology is very important science for civil engineers in design of major projects. This lab has core logs , Topo sheets, rock models etc to impart this knowledge to second year students of civil engineering. Ms Sangita Agrawal is incharge of the lab.

9.      Computer Lab :- This is the latest lab set up in the department. It has Intel P4 machines, which are networked. An LCD projector is fitted in the lab for permanent use. 256 kbps broadband connection is also provided. Authorized copies of international softwares viz staad pro & Auto civil are installed in the lab. Prof. A.B. Karankal looks after the lab.
