Department Profile
The Department of Computer Engineering was given the status of a separate department in 1992, after the bifurcation of the Electronics Engineering department, with an initial intake of 60 and with minimum infrastructure of two laboratories: Programming and Hardware labs. Since inception, it has grown in stature to be ranked amongst the best in the country. The Department currently offers B.E in Computer Engineering with an intake of 120 students. The department has qualified and experienced faculty and technically competent supporting staff on its rolls.
The department with the passage of its evolution and growth has succeeded in creating its place of excellence not only within the college but also among its counterparts in the country and abroad. It has been attracting bright students from all parts of the country for quality education in Computer Engineering at under graduate. During the course of time it has offered opportunities to its inmates in the area of quality education, research in pursuance of a long cherished mission of the college.
The department strives hard to impart quality education and to keep the students on the competitive edge of the present-day technology.
The Courses offered in the department meet the requirements of both industry and research. The curriculum is designed to train the students in developing application programs (Software) and also designing and developing computing systems (Hardware).
The department offers consultancy services for user driven software development and campus data networking.
Academic Strength
The department has 22 qualified and experienced faculty members, out of which 50% are having more than 5 Yrs of experience. 25% faculty members are having postgraduate degree in computer engineering. The faculty members have excelled in the areas like Software Engineering, Database Systems, Computer Graphics, Image Processing, Computer Network, Wireless Network, and Mobile Network. Faculty members are continuously engaged in research activities and have published National and International papers.
Departmental Activities
Association of Computer Engineering Students has been active for several years. The students conduct various technical and social activities every year. Students are also encouraged to know-how the latest technology and to participate national level technical events.
The faculty members provide consultancy services in Campus Data Networking and Software development. They are trained and involved in in-house development and maintenance for better practical exposure.
Employment Potential
The Computer Science and Engineering curriculum focuses on developing the Computer Engineering Graduates at par with the technology growth. This course develops the knowledge and skills in the area of Data structures, Object oriented programming languages, Relational Database Management Systems, Embedded Systems, Artificial Intelligence, etc. This branch of engineering produces engineers who can serve in the industries like software development, Automobile Industries, Bio - Medical Companies, Electrical & Electronics Companies, Pharmaceutical Companies and Research / Teaching.
Microsoft, AT&T, Bell Labs, IBM, Oracle, Infosys, TCS, CTS, Wipro, Satyam, Patni, Honeywell, Intel etc. are the few companies have recruited Computer Engineering students.
Future Scope
With the present importance of IT in all industry, IT will be an integral part of every company, be it Manufacturing, Research, Teaching, Psychology, Bio - Technology, etc. No meaningful process can be without an IT component. Therefore future scope will be bright and will be ever expanding in various domains like in Defense Application, Quality Product Manufacturing, Bio-metrics etc
