Laboratories
There are seven Computer Laboratories those provide hands-on computer experience on topics covered in undergraduate courses. These labs include more than 200 personal computers available for student use, equipped with Pentium IV PCs. All PCs have LAN, and TELNET connections. These laboratories are reserved for Computer Engineering (Hardware and software applications and development tools for C/C++, Dbase, Java, Perl, HTML, OS Programming) applications. Students have access to these labs for homework, Internet access or personal use. Since experience is essential in improving programming and computer skills, students are encouraged to use computers in their free times other than college hours. All the labs are connected via 10/100/1000 Mbps switched ports. Students also find wireless hotspots in and around the department. Students can use personal laptops, however they will not be getting network access until they authenticate to server using their login and password.
The locus of our department is two IBM X226 Xeon 3.0GHz servers. One server is configured as Web, Mail and Proxy in Linux for Internet access. Every student is given a mail account and space for his or her Home Page. This server is connected live to the Internet domain with static IP. The other server is configured as FTP and Telnet in Linux. FTP and Telnet facility provide inmates freedom to mobilize the resources and schedule.
The department has high-speed line matrix printer with network support (Tally 6306). This allows inmates to fire print from any of the PCs in the department.
The hosts on each lab in the department are on separate subnets and these subnets are directly connected to the servers. Such subnets restrict malicious worms to migrate from one lab to the other and minimize the chances of network jam.
The department has pioneered and self reliant in maintenance of PCs, Network and Servers.
